From Korea to Taiwan, Incheon, Seocho, and Los Angeles… Kim Young-hwa’s Artistic Journey Heading Toward the World
In 2026, the Year of the Red Horse (Byeong-o), Artist Kim Young-hwa is elevating the status of Korean art through her most active schedule of exhibition activities yet.

From November 12 to 15, she will participate in the INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2026 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, presenting an artistic world where the spirit of traditional Korean painting harmonizes with modern formal beauty.
At the Incheon Art Show 2026, she will focus exclusively on her golf-themed Oriental paintings. These works showcase her unique artistic vision by capturing the beautiful curves of golf courses, the vitality of nature, and dynamic human energy through traditional Korean ink and empty space.
Following this, a special exhibition will run from December 1, 2026, to February 26, 2027, at "Giselle," a famous bakery café in Seocho-dong, Seoul. Designed as a special space to encounter art in everyday life, this exhibition offers café visitors an opportunity to experience the breath of life and healing energy in Kim’s works alongside their coffee.

Notably, from December 9 to January 16, 2027, she has been invited to participate in the SHATTO GALLERY × GALLERY H Special Exhibition, 《Two Landscapes, Two Worlds: A Dialogue Between Korea and California》 in Los Angeles, USA, where she will exhibit alongside American artist Elyse Dodge. Artist Kim Young-hwa will reside in LA during this period, directly sharing the beauty of Korean art and her message of healing with local audiences.

Opening New Horizons for Modern Korean Painting from Traditional Roots
As a descendant of Danwon Kim Hong-do—one of the most representative painters of the Joseon Dynasty—Kim Young-hwa is a established artist who has inherited the spirit of traditional Korean painting while exploring new possibilities for modern Korean art.
Her late father was Master Kim Yun-tae (Dobong), recognized as Busan Intangible Cultural Property No. 13 in the field of ceramic making (Sagijang). The artistic heritage and craftsmanship of an eight-generation pottery family serve as deep roots for Kim Young-hwa’s creative world.
After graduating from the Department of Oriental Painting at Hongik University and earning her Master’s degree from the same graduate school, Kim has walked the single path of art for 47 years since 1979. Through over 80 solo exhibitions, she has established a unique body of work while contributing to the growth and popularization of Korean painting.
By combining natural pigments and golden structural forms grounded in deep traditional ink wash and the beauty of void, she creates a novel pictorial universe where the spirituality of Oriental art balances seamlessly with modern sensibilities.
Her representative works—including 〈Creation of Heaven and Earth〉, 〈Magical Moment〉, 〈Breath of Life〉, and 〈Waterfall of Memories〉—express the energy of healing flowing through life, nature, and the human inner self through a distinct visual language.
Rather than merely preserving tradition, Artist Kim Young-hwa has continuously re-created it to align with the contemporary spirit of today. By modernizing the tradition of Korean Oriental painting, she continues to make a significant mark on the evolution of modern Korean art.
